Recently, news has emerged that Dannon uses carmine in four flavors of Fruit on the Bottom yogurt Strawberry, Raspberry, Cherry, and Boysenberry , and in the Strawberry variety of its Oikos Greek yogurt.

Some berry-flavored yogurts get their lovely pink hue from crushed cochineal insects. The color is extracted from dried bugs and processed into a dye that is added to your food. Yogurt is rich in nutrients and may boost your health when consumed regularly. It may help reduce the risk of some diseases, while also benefiting digestive health and weight control. However, make sure to choose your yogurt wisely.

The shells are made of hard sugar candy,that is colored with small amounts of food grade dyes. No, the shells are not made of insects. In fact, Yoplait now remains one of the only major brands that sells food colored with carmine. But even Yoplait may phase it out after customers expressed concerns about eating bug parts. Greig: So I just think it's ironic people are freaked out about insects, about eating insects, even though we eat two pounds of insects a year on average by accident.
